Substance Use Disorder

The goals of substance use disorder treatment are no different than most other chronic and progressive illnesses. The diagnosis of substance use disorders has different severities and is based primarily on the results of a diagnostic assessment. Not everyone is found to be dependent on a substance. Substance use disorder treatment can be provided in inpatient or outpatient settings. This will depend on the severity.

Substance use therapy meeting once a week, such as through a private practice is extremely beneficial. This is point, someone has likely been abstinent from all mood altering substance and/or illicit drugs for a period of time and feels somewhat stable. If you need more that what I can provide, I will help you get where you need to go.

What substance users often find is that trauma is a significant part of their story and their substance use was a way to “forget” about past or current trauma. If this is the case, we can address both substance use and trauma.
